I do not know about anyone else but I am so sick and tired of reading about our leaders acting like children in the sandbox. The problem with this is that when our leaders act like this, then we have no problem acting like this ourselves. For all those that do not understand this, it is the real reason other countries laugh at us, they see us as not caring about each other.
So I decided that I would send my thoughts to the US Congress and see how they will react. I am not telling them what state I am from or anything else other than I am a citizen of this country who is exercising their right to speak up to their leaders.
So here is my message:
Dear Congress Member,
As a citizen I am sending a note to communicate to you my thoughts and feelings about how I feel Congress is doing their job for the people of the United States. Since I am a citizen that all of you represent, it doesn’t matter whether I am a veteran, what political affiliation I am, my religious affiliation, my race, my gender and most of all whether I voted for you. I am only 1 piece of a 330 million piece puzzle that makes up the United States. Who I am is who I am but that isn’t anymore important than all the other people that live here or the country itself which we should all be okay with.
Anything I say here is with all due respect, understanding that your position comes with decisions and responsibilities that we cannot fathom. I understand you are a human being with compassion, empathy, fear, insecurity, etc. I understand you are fallible, which means you are no different than we are and sometimes we have a hard time realizing this. I also know that some of what I am going to say may not relate to you but as in life when you hang out with horse thieves you pay the price.
To start, I am really disappointed in our Congressional leaders, especially with how they act towards each other. The founding fathers gave you a tremendous amount of power, some may say the most power of anyone in this country. They wanted that power to have checks and balances with other branches of the government to hold each other accountable. I do not think they would have built it this way for you to act the way you are today, blindly loyal to one person or one party instead of the country and the American people.
What I see today from our leadership is a bunch of adults who act like they are still in high school instead of running this country. Fighting with each other for no other reason than they belong to another party or because of who the President is. If we wanted the country to be run by children, we would elect children.
As leaders, you have the responsibility to represent everyone, not just who is President, what your beliefs are, what party you belong to, what race you are, what religion you are and who voted for you. The people in your district or state are more than just who you are or the people that voted for you. I find it funny that both your supporters and you have a hard time understanding this or maybe you do understand it and do not care. You make decisions that effect other states and other people, why would one not think they have a responsibility to those people.
I would ask you the last time you talked to people that you represent, whether it is people that are of the same party or not or voted for you or not. I remember reaching out to 2 people about thoughts on the VA and I received no communication to this day. I was very disappointed because you work for the people and to ignore us when we reach out means you are not doing your job. Being ignored by our leaders gives us cause to vote for people when they make it seem like they are listening to us.
When was the last time you voted for or helped a bill that was not started by your party or was not part of your agenda? When was the last time you went against your parties wishes because you knew it was something was not right for your people or the country? When was the last time you fought for something that may hurt you politically. This is what good leaders do, sometimes they have to make the tough decisions in the face of adversity.
Our country is very unique, in reality there is no other like it, so sometimes the solutions needed may have to be something as unique. This will mean compromise and sacrifice, this is always difficult but it is necessary for us to move towards the country we want. No one person and no one state should be the end all for how this country will be. We are a country of different races, religions, political parties, cultures, genders and even states. To try to bring this together under one umbrella was always going to be difficult and the longer we go without understanding this, the more we will continue to be divided. We are dealing with human beings, not polls or groups, which means decisions can be the difference between life and death.
Do any of you think about how much damage you may be doing when you post something on social media? Is posting something that may not be true or passing on someone else’s conspiracy or hatred just to stay in the limelight that important? Do you really believe some of the outrageous things you say or are you just trying to create a cult of haters to support your agenda?
Have you ever wondered how many atrocities could have been avoided if people were not triggering others on social media, including yourselves? Do you think all of the fighting and blaming you do to each other just triggers happy thoughts? Your behavior spreads hate, division and effects everything from religious persecution to elections. Your words matter to people as our leaders, your reactions to our words matter because you are our leaders, to think that you do not impact someone, somewhere means you may not have a clue on what your responsibility is. You are creating social media cults who just continue to damage this country.
Do you realize the effect of the slogans or tag lines you use can make you the greatest hate creators in the country, continuously keeping us divided? When you talk about taking our country back, who the hell is creating such chaos that we have to take the country back from our own citizens? Christians saying they are being attacked or oppressed, who is attacking your faith to the point that you replace that faith with hate and division? Lastly, you can’t make America Great Again if we consistently are making things better for only a portion of the country or continually fight internal civil wars. MAGA is an illusion because our own people, as well as our leaders, keep stopping this country from being better.
Real people are dying, but when we are celebrating it, we should be ashamed of ourselves as people and leaders. People are in trouble and their lives are in danger yet we threaten to not help them for arrogant reasons, we should be ashamed of ourselves as people and leaders. This is what really makes us the laughing stock of the world not who we elect President. They see us as a country where our people and our leaders do not give a crap about each other or at least make it seem like we do not.
Like it or not our country has become too large and too diverse for the days of small government, some of our citizens need assistance for whatever reason and we as people and as a country should be able to provide it. At the same time, we should not have our life dependent on the government, whether that is at a federal, state or local level. Some people just want to be able to live their lives their way and not have a whole bunch of people and governments telling them what to do. We should pay something for living in this country but not to where too much of the money we work hard for is taken from us. No one should have the right to tell us whether we are paying our fair share or not.
You swore an oath to the Constitution but is seems like many of you want to rip that apart for your own power hungry ways. It is not for you or anyone to cherry pick the Constitution, the way we do the Bible or the Quran, because someone is scared or because they think they have the right to tell others what their rights are. Having true freedoms may mean that something goes against what we believe but people still have the right to it. To bypass the Constitution and remove our freedoms or history without thinking of others means there really is no understanding of what this document is.
People say we have to leave a better life for our children but what kind of children are we creating if they see our leaders doing childish things? What kind of children are we creating when we shield them from everything that we say is bad for them, how will they know what is bad or what is good? They should be free to make mistakes, make decisions and be allowed to be children. It is our job to be around to assist them when they fall but it doesn’t mean that falling is always bad. They should not be conformed into something we want because of our own insecurities or failures in life. People should not be telling other people how to raise their children unless they are willing to have people do the same to them. What we are creating for the future is scared, narcissistic people who have no empathy for others and do not have to take responsibility for anything.
You are making decisions on people’s lives, people you will never meet, people whose children you will never see, people who you will never see sitting in a hospital bed with tubes in their arms, people standing in front of a grave asking why they are standing there. Just because you do not see them doesn’t mean you are not effecting their lives. You should take that more seriously than you currently are or maybe ignoring them makes it easier to make your decisions.
I believe in our political system which means I believe in the fact that people thought enough of you to put you in your office and therefore a leader of this country. If you think that things are going to get better because of one person as President or not as President, then you have no clue on what your responsibility is.
All of this is what makes it very disappointing to me as a citizen.
I would like to thank you for your time and I wish you well in your service to our country.
